Listed here are ALL of our host committee positions. The open positions are up top, and the ones that are currently held by someone are towards the bottom. Click/tap any of the positions to expand their job descriptions.
The job descriptions listed on this page are all codified in our committee bylaws. Please refer to the bylaws for information regarding committee actions, like how we run our meetings, and what we do with voting and finances.

Here are our OPEN positions:
Members-at-Large Must have desire to stop drinking. Not elected; recognized after stating desire to be a Member-at-Large and furnishing name to Secretary. Must attend one business meeting before having the right to vote.
Al-Anon/Ala-Teen Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Coordinates Al-Anon and Ala-Teen participation at the convention; assists Program Chair with activities and meetings targeted to those participants.
Accessibility Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Communicates with, outreaches to, and accommodates the Special Needs community; obtains ASL and foreign language interpreters; accommodates physical limitations at events and convention.
Alternate Treasurer Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 2 years. Confirms accuracy of Treasurer reports; assists Treasurer in maintaining true financial records; accepts Treasurer responsibilities in Treasurer’s absence; rotates into Treasurer if position is vacated.
Archivist Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Collects flyers, documents, merchandise, audio/video files, publications, and other items preserving committee history; provides materials to Board/Advisory Archivist for convention archives.
Area 44 Booker Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 year. Attends quarterly Bookers Bonanza to obtain speaking commitments; works with Area 44 Liaison to coordinate commitments; oversees fulfillment of commitments.
Area 44 Liaison Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Works directly with Outreach Subco; Serves as the primary bridge between NJYPAA and Area 44, communicating with districts and intergroups to promote service opportunities within the General Service structure and assist with committee outreach efforts.
Area 45 Liaison Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Works directly with Outreach Subco; Serves as the primary bridge between NJYPAA and Area 45, communicating with districts and intergroups to promote service opportunities within the General Service structure and assist with committee outreach efforts.
Audio/Visual Liaison to Site Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 year. Handles audio and visual equipment needs for convention and events; works with Hotel Chair to ensure proper equipment for meetings, panels, and events; manages setup, preparation, breakdown, and return; may recruit a team for equipment support.
Bid Development Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 year. Facilitates the growth and success of potential host committees by providing guidance on bid requirements, maintaining communication with bidding cities, and encouraging new participation to ensure the future of the convention.
Co Secretary Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 year. Welcomes new members; familiarizes them with committee structure and procedures; guides members to service opportunities; carries out duties delegated by Secretary; accepts Secretary responsibilities in Secretary’s absence; rotates into Secretary if position is vacated.
Digital Outreach Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Publishes committee events and outreach on social media; guards online/social media presence from prejudice and controversy; monitors digital presence and represents the Committee as needed.
Entertainment Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Plans and coordinates convention entertainment such as dances, comedy shows, open mics, and related events; works with Audio/Visual and Events Chairs to secure DJs, personnel, and equipment.
Events Co-Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 year. Recruits volunteers; carries out duties delegated by Events Chair; accepts Events Chair responsibilities in the Chair’s absence; rotates into Events Chair if position is vacated.
External Outreach Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 year. Coordinates outreach outside New Jersey; corresponds with AA entities at national, regional, state, and city levels; assists Outreach Chair; rotates into Outreach Chair if position is vacated.
Graphics Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Designs materials such as flyers, banners, tickets, t-shirts, newsletters, and other graphics; should have access to appropriate software; works closely with Events, Merchandise, Program, Outreach, and Web Chairs; time-intensive and deadline-driven.
Hospitality Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Organizes, staffs, budgets, and plans hospitality suite; assists Events Chair with food/beverage for events; oversees and arranges speaker transportation; serves as point of contact for attendee transportation or parking questions.
Hotel Co-Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 year. Learns and supports Hotel Chair duties; carries out delegated duties; accepts Hotel Chair responsibilities in absence; rotates into Hotel Chair if position is vacated.
Inclusivity Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 3 months. Develops plan to include AA members commonly regarded as underrepresented, such as LGBTQ, foreign language-speaking, and other minority populations; works with Program and Outreach Chairs.
In-Reach Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Coordinates outreach inside New Jersey; corresponds with AA entities in Areas 44 and 45, Districts, Intergroups, and Homegroups.
Literature/Grapevine Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Obtains literature from GSO and Grapevine when necessary; manages literature at events and convention; ensures literature/Grapevine materials or subscriptions are available as deemed appropriate; encourages Grapevine participation/submissions; responsible for monthly newsletter.
Litty Committee Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Responsible for enthusiasm and vivacity at tables during other YPAA conventions and events; coordinates with Events, Outreach, and Registration Chairs; duties may include dance parties, rap battles, singalongs, and chanting; practices attraction rather than promotion under the Eleventh Tradition.
Merchandise Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 year.Creates merchandise with Graphics Chair; works with Treasurer on merchandise budgets and quotes; delivers monies and invoices with documentation; keeps inventory; oversees transportation and sale of merchandise at events, conventions, and NJYPAA.
New Member Liaison Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 year. Welcomes new members to New Jersey Young People of AA, helps enroll them in group chats, ensures their contact information is provided to the Secretary, and introduces them to committee members at events and business meetings to help them feel connected and involved.
Panel Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 year Operates within the Program Subcommittee to plan and coordinate convention panels, including developing topics, selecting speakers, moderators, and managing schedules in collaboration with the Program Chair to ensure proper room assignments and successful session execution.
Program Co-Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 year. Learns Program Chair duties; carries out delegated duties; accepts Program Chair responsibilities in absence; rotates into Program Chair if position is vacated.
Registration Co-Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 year. Learns Registration Chair duties; carries out delegated duties; accepts Registration Chair responsibilities in absence; rotates into Registration Chair if position is vacated.
Security Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Responsible for safety and security of convention attendees; enforces site policies on smoking or vaping; forms and outfits a security team to ensure duties are performed.
Treatment Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Works directly with Outreach Subco; Acts as liaison between the Committee and sober living/treatment facilities; responsible for related commitments; encourages involvement and participation from facility members.
Volunteer Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 year Recruits and maintains a list of volunteers for the convention to assist with setup and execution of on-site duties.
Workshop Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 Year. Operates within the Program Subcommittee to plan and coordinate convention workshops, including developing workshop topics, selecting facilitators, and managing schedules in collaboration with the Program Chair to ensure proper room assignments and successful workshop execution.
Web Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 year. Maintains website content and outreach/events materials in adherence with AA Traditions; coordinates with Events, Graphics, and Outreach Chairs; posts and removes materials timely; works with Secretary to post approved minutes; maintains email system; monitors website correspondence and forwards it appropriately; mentors Web Co-Chair.
Web Co-Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months Supports Web Chair duties; accepts Web Chair duties in absence; rotates into Web Chair if the Web Chair is relieved or position is vacated.
Y.E.S Meeting Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 1 year. Facilitates the weekly NJYPAA online Y.E.S. AA meeting every Monday at 9:00 PM EST, managing the virtual platform and coordinating speakers to provide a consistent recovery resource for the young people's community.
Y.E.S. Meeting Co-Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Supports the Y.E.S. Meeting Chair in facilitating the weekly Monday night online Y.E.S. meeting, assisting with technical logistics and coordinating speakers, and assuming all meeting responsibilities if the Chair is unavailable; rotates into Y.E.S. meeting chair if the Y.E.S. Meeting Chair is relieved or the position is vacated.

Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 3 years. Responsible for the overall functioning of the Committee; dedicates significant personal time; understands the Twelve Steps, Traditions, and Concepts; holds elected members accountable; maintains awareness of all service positions and subcommittees; creates agendas; conducts meetings in accordance with bylaws; informs the group of meetings and changes; acts as liaison with Secretary to the Board/Advisory; serves as bank signer; holds one P.O. Box key; moderates electronic message board; mentors the Co-Chair; submits final financial statements, registration records, hotel records, and final reports within 60 days of convention close.
Co-Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 3 years. Assists the Chair with overall functioning and support; helps ensure tasks are accomplished; facilitates meetings in the Chair’s absence; accepts full responsibilities of Chair when needed; informs the Chair if the Committee votes to relieve the Chair; immediately rotates into Chair if the Chair position is vacated.
Secretary Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 2 years. Collects reports; prepares agendas; keeps accurate minutes including exact wording for motions and points of discussion; answers correspondence; checks P.O. Box; emails approved minutes; maintains subcommittee minutes/reports; reads previous minutes; keeps attendance; maintains contact list; furnishes information from minutes; supports cross-committee communication; maintains bylaws and cloud storage; mentors Co Secretary; runs meetings in absence of Chair and Co-Chair.
Treasurer Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 3 years. Administers all monies and financial records; keeps financial reports; tracks income and expenses; pays bills; reconciles bank accounts monthly; conveys monthly financial reports to Advisory Chair and Secretary; brings bank records, financial records, checkbook, and cashbox to Committee meetings; advises subcommittees on budgets; serves as registered agent on bank account; manages financial accounts; mentors Alternate Treasurer; produces proposed and final budgets/reports when hosting the state convention.
Hotel Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 2 years. Works with Board/Advisory to negotiate hotel contracts and amendments; serves as point of contact with hotel before, during, and after the convention; develops hotel-related budget with Treasurer; coordinates hotel needs with subcommittees; reports monthly on room block and hotel items; reports to Chair at close of convention; mentors Hotel Co-Chair.
Outreach Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 2 years. Chairs Outreach Subcommittee; develops and implements outreach plan for New Jersey and surrounding areas; adheres to AA anonymity guidelines; outreaches all committee functions; maintains good conduct at AA gatherings and online; mentors Outreach Co-Chair.
Program Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 2 years. Develops final convention program; vets potential speakers for main meetings, panels, and workshops; presents selections for approval; may fill vacancies under Third Concept guidance; oversees transportation and accommodations for traveling speakers; coordinates pre-convention event; cooperates with Hotel, Outreach, and Graphics Chairs for program publication and Advisory approval.
Registration Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 2 years. Oversees registration before, during, and after the convention; maintains registration database and payments; deposits monies to Treasurer; confirms registrations; cooperates with Outreach and Web Chairs; assists Events Chair with event registration; reports registration numbers monthly; oversees registration table staffing, money handling, registration items, and issue resolution; reports statistics for Roll Call; reports final information to Chair.
Events Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 2 years. Hosts events promoting NJYPAA awareness, unity, and recovery; coordinates budgets; develops event ideas; oversees place, date, time, speakers, costs, refreshments, music, and logistics; works with Outreach and Graphics Chairs; recruits volunteers; ensures events align with AA Traditions; mentors Events Co-Chair.
Prayer/Unity Chair Suggested minimum length of sobriety: 6 months. Recommended to have worked all Twelve Steps; reminds committee of spiritual aspect of service; opens and closes meetings with prayer or reading; calls for prayer during heated debate; plans unity events; supports members/committees needing assistance.
